How the calculator works#
Your EV uses battery energy while charging also loses some energy as heat. This calculator divides monthly miles by vehicle efficiency, adds your selected charging loss, and multiplies the result by your electricity rate.
A faster Level 2 charger usually does not make each kWh more expensive. It mainly changes how quickly your vehicle charges. Use the home charger comparison to compare charging speeds, or read the installation guide before hiring an electrician.
Ways to lower home charging costs#
- Ask your utility about time-of-use rates and charge during off-peak hours.
- Check available EV charger rebates and tax credits.
- Choose a smart charger if scheduling is not built into your EV.
