Main difference#
A NEMA 14-50 receptacle includes two hots, a ground, and a neutral. A NEMA 6-50 receptacle uses two hots and a ground without a neutral. Most Level 2 EV charging does not use a neutral, but charger plug compatibility and local installation practices still matter.

Do not use just any existing outlet#
EV charging is a long continuous load. An old, shared, damaged, or light-duty receptacle can be a poor fit even if the plug shape matches. Confirm the circuit, breaker, wire, receptacle quality, mounting, and GFCI requirements with a qualified electrician.
